Skylog is a web-based dispatch management system designed for coordinating field support units during events and emergency operations. From a single interface, dispatchers can track incidents, manage unit status, view real-time positions on a live map, and communicate with field personnel — all updating instantly across every connected browser.

Incident Management

Create, track, and close incidents with priority levels, locations, and reporting parties. Automatic geocoding converts addresses to map coordinates. Optimistic locking prevents conflicts when multiple dispatchers work simultaneously.

Unit Dispatching

Ten distinct status codes track every phase of unit activity: Check In, In Service, Assigned, Responding, At Scene, Transporting, and more. Assign units to incidents with automatic location propagation.

Live Map + APRS

Interactive map shows unit positions, incident markers, and saved places in real time. APRS integration provides automatic position tracking via amateur radio. Browser GPS supports mobile units without APRS equipment.

Command Interface

Terminal-style command entry designed for speed under pressure. Check in a unit, assign to an incident, change status — all with brief keyboard commands like :CI/MED1 or :AU/MED1/5.

Messaging

Send messages between dispatch personnel with read receipts and reply functionality. Popup alerts notify users of new messages. See who is currently online at each dispatch center.

Activity Logging

Every status change, assignment, and incident update is automatically logged with timestamps. Dispatchers can add custom notes. The complete activity log provides a post-event audit trail.

Real-Time Updates

Server-Sent Events push every change instantly to all connected browsers. No polling, no refreshing — dispatchers see updates the moment they happen across the entire operation.

Multi-Center Support

Run multiple independent dispatch centers from one system. Role-based access controls who can dispatch, view, or administer each center. Data is fully isolated between centers.

Where Skylog Fits

01

Event Support Operations

Marathons, charity walks, cycling events, and other organized activities need medical, safety, and communications support spread across a course. Skylog gives the command post a clear picture: which units are available, where they are, what incidents are active, and who is responding. When a runner goes down at mile 8, the dispatcher sees which medical unit is closest and assigns them in seconds.

02

SKYWARN Weather Nets

During severe weather, amateur radio operators serve as trained storm spotters and field resources coordinated through SKYWARN nets. Skylog tracks spotter positions via APRS, manages assignments to coverage areas, and logs all reports and observations. After the event, the activity log provides a complete record for post-storm analysis and National Weather Service reporting.

How It Works

1

Dispatch Action

A dispatcher enters a command or creates an incident through the web interface. Commands are concise keyboard-driven inputs designed for rapid entry.

2

Processing

The command is routed through a message bus to specialized workers that handle business logic, update the database, and generate events.

3

Real-Time Broadcast

Events are broadcast to all connected browsers via Server-Sent Events. Every dispatcher and unit user sees the change instantly — no refresh needed.

4

Audit Trail

Every action is logged with timestamps, user identity, and context. The activity log provides a complete, searchable record of the entire operation.

Role-Based Access

Admin

Full dispatch center management, user assignments, and configuration.

Map Admin

Create and edit routes, places, and map overlays for the operations area.

Dispatcher

Full operational access: incidents, units, commands, messaging, and logging.

Unit User

Mobile field personnel. Update own status, view assigned incidents, send GPS position.

Read Only

View-only access to the dispatch board. Ideal for observers and supervisors.

Whether you're organizing a community event, running a SKYWARN net, or coordinating any field operation that needs dispatch support — we'd like to hear from you.

Important Notice

Skylog is accessed via the Internet, which involves many components (ISPs, DNS, hosting infrastructure, browser compatibility) outside of the operator's and developer's direct control. Service availability cannot be guaranteed at all times.

Skylog should not be used as the sole system for critical life safety operations. Always maintain backup communication and dispatch procedures.
